Jonathan Bengtson, University of Victoria Libraries

Jonathan Bengtson is University Librarian at the University of Victoria, Chair of the Coalition of Canadian Digital Heritage, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His impact has led to transformative changes in the profession and practice of librarianship— including advances in open access to knowledge and data, pioneering digitization initiatives and building national publishing and preservation infrastructure. Among numerous equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, he established Canada’s first Associate University Librarian for Reconciliation. During more than twenty-five years of international leadership, Bengtson has helped position academic libraries and library organizations as integral partners in research and learning during a time of profound change with the shift from analogue to digital-based knowledge systems. Founder of KULA, Bengtson’s work largely focusses on the intersections of knowledge production and technological change.
